Midwifery & Birth Assistant 
Intensive Training Retreat

This Midwifery and Birth Attendant Intensive Training Retreat will offer practical learning skills for students midwives, nurses,  or doulas who are or will be attending births as primary or secondary midwife in out-of-hospital settings.

Skills taught will include monitoring labor in out-of-hospital settings, blood drawing and lab work, how to do vaginal exams, pelvimetry, and breast exams, the role of the midwife, special equipment and supplies for home birth, charting, medical terminology, suturing, injections, emergency skills such as resuscitation, shoulder dystocia, twin and breech births, and much more. This will be a six-day Training Retreat, with lots of knowledge and skills being taught in a relaxed environment..

Your instructors will be Vicki Penwell, Rose Penwell, and Ian Penwell, all three Licensed Midwives and Certified Professional Midwives (CPM). All have extensive experience as midwives in the USA and internationally.

Vicki has trained midwives since 1982 and has midwifed babies and taught midwifery all over the USA and in dozens of countries in Asia and Latin America. She and her family founded and direct Mercy In Action, a non-profit organization that sets up and funds free birth centers for poor women in developing countries.
To date Vicki has personally attended around 2,500 births, and her organization has been responsible for the safe delivery of more than 12,000 babies in the Philippines, with excellent outcomes even among high risk women.            (See Vicki's chapter in Birth Models That Work, by Robbie Davis-Floyd, PhD)

Ian and Rose Penwell are a husband and wife midwife team since 2006. They are both CPM's who trained initially in the Philippines and now run a home birth practice in Boise, Idaho. Ian is  a medic, Wilderness EMT, and CPR and IV Instructor, and Rose is a gifted teacher, researcher and clinician . Together they have helped hundreds of babies into the world, and taught midwifery to dozens of student midwives along the way.


Come study with us in a quiet setting where everything will be conducive to learning and retaining midwifery knowledge, all the while enjoying peaceful, spiritually uplifting and calming  surroundings.

Price includes lodging, transportation to and from airport, all materials, and brain-healthy snacks. You will buy your meals, or buy food to prepare your meals, on site where we are staying.

How to get here: When you register we will send you more details . Fly into Boise, Idaho, and we will pick you up at the airport and transport you to the training site.  You will travel on Sunday coming and going, and be here Monday-Saturday all day.
